Richard Carlyle grew up in western Montana. After graduating from Ronan High School, he attended Montana Western University in Dillon for one year. His love for ships and the sea attracted him to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, where he graduated with honors. He went to sea for three years, raising his license to Chief Mate. He taught at the high school level for one year and in a navigation school for three years. he was employed by Military Traffic Management Command for 30 years. As Marine Transportation Officer, he was the senior civilian for the 1313th Medium Port Command in Seattle, WA. He is a graduate of the Army Management Staff College in Ft. Belvoir, VA. He is a recipient of the Superior Civilian Service Award and was recognized as Federal Employee of the Year in the Managerial/Supervisory category by the Seattle Federal Executive Board. He has written numerous professional articles and the book, "An Answer to Prayer." He is listed in the 2000 Edition of Who's Who in the World and the 2001 Edition of Who's Who in America. Following his retirement from the government, he moved to Polson. He is the captain and tour guide on the PRINCESS, a 46 foot long cruise vessel owned by the KwaTaqNuk Resort in Polson. He is exceptionally knowledgeable on Flathead Lake. He has been boating from the family cabin in Indian Bay for most of his life. |
