Helena's capital is rich in history and beauty. We sit at the foothills of the Montana Rockies, surrounded by forests, and have an abundance of lakes and rivers, great for all types of recreation. We have some wonderful four-wheeling and horseback riding areas, lakes for boating and fishing, parks, and plenty of areas to go camping. Check out Lake Helena and Hauser Lake in the winter and you will see plenty of ice fishing happening. Canyon Ferry lake in the summer has its share of boaters enjoying the summer fun. Oh, and rafting on the Missouri, well, it is a blast!
Our mansion district is beautiful and full of Victorian homes. You can even tour this district on the Last Chance Tour Train. Of course you must also check out the historic walking mall, Reeder's Alley, the Montana Historical Society, the State Capitol building, the original governor's mansion, and the St. Helena Cathedral. These are just a few of our famous sites. In addition, when you are at the Montana Historical Society read all about the gold rush of 1864. It is fascinating to say the least!
We are also blessed to have an abundance of entertainment. Of course, we have a Farmer's Market in the summer, plenty of street festivals, rodeos, fairs, symphonies, museums, theatres, shopping, gala fundraisers full of community spirit and pride, and so much more. There is always something to do here.
As the state capitol and the county seat for Lewis and Clark County, we are unique in the strength of our economy. Montana itself is strong, but Helena has many government positions here that help keep our residents employed and our economy more stable than most. We have traditionally had a steady housing market.
We welcome anyone wanting to join our community and look forward to long and lasting relationships with our current and new residents. Welcome to Helena!
